BF2mld is the Battlefield 2 mapload delayer. It artificially delays (slows down) the mapload of the BF2-client.
If the BF2-client loads the map faster than the BF2-server, players get kicked from the server stating that “This server allows players with unmodified content to join.”
Usually players “Alt+Tab” from BF2 so that Windows withdraws resources from the BF2-process to delay the mapload. But sometimes this is not working correctly and it also is not working if players play BF2 in windowed-mode (i.e. do not play in fullscreen).
This is what BF2mld is for: it provides a more reliable and comfortable way of artificially delaying the mapload so that players do not get kicked.
BF2mld is designed to run in the background, even if the BF2-client is not running. As soon as the BF2-client is started, BF2mld will watch for mapchanges and delay them according to the configuration.
BF2mld was alpha-tested by a few people but it's still possible that it contains bugs. BF2mld does not need an internet-connection (works in LAN as well), probably works for mods too (not tested) and does not alter any BF2-files (thus does not influence the stability of BF2).
Feedback is welcome, if you have questions just go ahead and ask.

It should still work since it's a completely client-based program.
However, since we changed the server when I originally released it, it shouldn't be necessary any more on many PCs, since the new server loads maps faster than the old one.
Why do you ask? If you're having trouble feel free to ask...

I am also having exact same problem in last few days, no sound, and it goes into standby mode on 0.8.2 after it says bf2 is running, tried both running in admin mode as well.
Even deleted and re-installed BF2Mld.

Since nothing changed on BF2mld: did you change something on your PC? Switched from Win7/8 to Win10?
Installed a new security-software or changed something on your BF2 install?
BF2mld is a pretty small tool and usually when it detects that BF2 is running but does not detect maploads it's due to insufficient permissions [to query the BF2.exe].

Thanks for your work!
Is there any chance to make it GPL/open-source based? I am asking because I am totally against running 3rd party unsigned executables on my PC, especially with administrator permissions. You know what I am talking about.
Or any chance to review the code?
I hope it is not a critical piece of creation. And be assured the authorship will be respected. At least, by myself.
Also, according to the video, the file size is quite large: a 7 megabytes executable for what? It has just a simple GUI, and I am pretty sure not too much LOC. Maybe optimize it a lit bit?
So looking forward to your reply Antiglucke.

Just to let you know: I'll consider on publishing the source code; not sure yet though.
Two more things:
1) You only have to run BF2mld as admin if you run BF2 as admin as well. For me BF2mld works, even when it's run by a normal user and BF2 by an admin; but since I imagined it potentially could cause issues I tried to ensure that everyone sets the permissions to match.
2) The file size of BF2mld is that large because it's a frozen python-script. So the exe contains the python interpreter and all necessary (and probably some unnecessary) modules and dlls. I'll try to improve its size, but all in all the memory and storage footprint of this thingy will never be great. I don't want to port it to C++, sorry

I can try to rewrite it to a native Win86/Win64 executable if it's relatively small, under 1K effective LOC.

The "MID" works great for me. I'm running a 5960 Intel(windows 8.2) with settings at 2 predelay , 10 delay and not even in Admin mode ... Thanks Antiglucke
Sorry to resurrect this thread but are there anyway to disable the exit confirmation... when I leave bf2mld running it blocks the shutdown sequence in windows 10

I personally have a .bat file tied to windows shutdown sequence that terminates the process of such programs.
it works perfectly fine you just have to tune timer up to your pc specs. In my case I have it on 8 seconds and I've never been disconnected because of map loading too fast.
