To start things off, I am pretty sure this message will not even have 5% of the impact compared to the amount of thoughts that go into it, since - with all due respect - based on my experiences with this community, only a very few individuals seem to actually be able to understand concepts like what makes an admin fit for a certain environment. I just wanted to clear my intentions with this prologue: to give you a clear picture of what is and what isn't going on your server that you are basically following through a "Watchlist", a bunch of demos and some obsolete hard written rules for admins that might have worked 10 years ago when you had 10 of us, but since then 10 years have passed, and now you are left with 0 active admins again, probably wondering why. So here is why:
Even though your people management skills are through the roof, but you have never really asked, thought I would share my two cents, as well as do a quick recap of things I HAVE and things I HAVE NOT done during my circa two years as an ingame admin of your server.
So, my brief two cents: people on this server are way too used to thinking they can do whatever they want both verbally (especially against admins) and non-verbally creating so much noise and false claims that a lot of them become blinded and attack innocent players while ignoring real issues.
This has a few interconnected reasons:
1. They are not being punished enough for messing up.
2. Admins' hands are tied so much it's almost not worth the time punishing - following your protocol is way too much effort compared to the amount of punishable rule breaking happening each day. Yes, on my first day I was told I can act like I didn't see, but that's quite a laughable principle to say the least... and yes, I stopped following it so thoroughly just like others, because it was simply not worth it while the QoL on the server improved anyway.
3. Admin rules are way too restrictive as to when and how we can or cannot take action.
4. I respect the fact that you might have no time/intention to actively intervene in the daily happenings, but your feedback on admins or anything at all, and your presence as a head admin overall is basically non-existent. There's nothing wrong with that after all, but like I previously said, the years are passing, things are changing and what seemed like a good idea multiple years ago might need rework.
+1: Ingame warnings are useless, no matter what.
Now, let's go through some of the main reasons I've ever kicked or banned anyone so you can get an idea of what kind of an admin I really was:
Cheating:
There were two cases when I would ban a player for cheating:
1. Crystal clear, on the spot banning, people with autoaim, tagging, etc.
2. If not 100% sure, posting an entry on the forum about a potential cheater waiting - mostly in vain - for other admins' confirmation. 99% of the time I would actively keep an eye out on the player, and then end up removing them from the server because of multiple undeniable actions.
I have never kicked/banned anyone for cheating because I was kind of convinced, but not sure, just annoyed.
Teamkilling (intentional, forced, redlining etc...), C4 teammates, destroying team vehicles:
I based my actions on one principle: Is it a regular or fairly new player breaking the rule?
Depending on the situation (i.e. what did the player achieve with their actions - took heli alone? blew people into the sea and got the F35? or tried to overrun someone with a car, but messed up and killed themselves in the process instead etc.), I would hand out one warning, and then a kick/ban, or instantly do the latter. A usual exception was redlining, where I would instantly kick anyone, since it was impossible to expect the rulebreaker to then pick someone up, mostly wanting the vehicle just for themselves.
I have never kicked/banned anyone based on allegations, players telling me they got intentionally teamkilled, etc.
Other disruptive behaviour like stealing teammates' vehicles, hiding when fullcapped, language/name violations:
For language and name violations I have mostly only warned people, in very rare cases I went on to kick anyone for such reasons.
For hiding I firstly warned as well, and then after 2-3 tries the kick happened.
For vehicle stealing it was again, depending on the situation - in-combat it was always an instant kick. You cannot possibly expect me to start warning people when they are in fight waiting for them to leave the vehicle. In more peaceful settings i.e. in base, I would first start with warnings.
I have never kicked/banned anyone because I personally did not like what they said, or kicked anyone because they stole my vehicle, but ignored if it happened to someone else I saw - even though you would allow your admins to do that.
And lastly, the dark horse - idling
A well-known player kindly reported me recently for kicking/banning people that get into "my" helicopter "abusing his powers because he wants to play solo only".
So let's make things clear:
Yes, I mostly want to play solo. BUT, I have never used my admin rights just to achieve that. Here's what the report forgot to contain: context, lol.
There were two cases when I entered a helicopter:
1. A guy gets in as gunner. I start telling them to get out. They don't. So I leave the heli in rage and go afk. No kick, no ban, no harm.
2. I get to switch to gunner, so the delinquent has to be pilot. This is where some people would start protesting by standing next to the vehicle expecting me to switch to pilot and fly them instead. Now, this in my book is idling, especially when there's no one else around to take the spot. I would not even put this up for a debate. After a few warns, two things happened usually: they got in and either crashed or redlined me, or they got in, took off, but started acting dumb and flew around clueless again practically IDLING the vehicle. This is when I kicked people for idling.
Oh, and the other report from the same player about me threatening him for crashing into me multiple times in a row just to annoy me, because he has no other means of taking me down?
We need context, right? The player in question barely has any time in jet. He clearly only chose to play it so he can crash into me without actually trying to shoot me down - even though he might be able to -, and be useful = griefing, an unsportsmanlike behaviour that again is hardly punishable because of the soft rules the server has. Griefing, because those who have ever played heli know that it's practically impossible to avoid someone trying to crash into you with a jet. After 1-2 turns they will get you. Griefing. Kickable/bannable. No doubt.
What I have never done on the other hand is rage kicking/banning people out of straight toxicity. There is one friendly exception that I'm admitting: it's Hegr who I have a friendly banter with. I once kicked him because he crashed into me two times in a row while trying to shoot me down - unlike the previous player. But we know each other, he knows I have nothing against him, no harm was done.
I'm not saying I was a perfect admin. I was many times overheated, but only internally. I've never taken action unjustified just to put myself in a better position, even though MANY players were asking for it the way they behaved.
I can also safely say that I was the best and most fair in terms of what this server really needed as "the daily admin".
Now, before you, Club, as head admin start criticizing my methods, please read again my two cents part.
And, to close out - Vansand, good job mate, you just got the last truly active admin removed because of your main character syndrome kicking in.
I've never seen Medics target any player or break server rules. If he's leaving as an admin it's a loss to this server. There are only a few players left that truly understand this game, what is possible and not within it, even fewer who are actually willing to admin and deal with some of the most braindead things to walk this earth.
Based on what medics wrote, I completely understand why action was taken against him, but I think a warning would have sufficed instead of a complete demotion. He's like the only admin doing any kind of real-time moderation of the server, the vast majority of the time. And I'm sure, if he was warned for what caused his demotion, that would've not happened again.
With the fact that some players constantly harass me in shoutbox just because I complained that blocking random IP's doesnt make any sense nowadays. They insult me continuously and even say very offensive stuff.
I am not even a little bit surprised with this.
