In Germany we had lots of cases where protesting people were encountered with unnecessary violence (e.g. a pensioners eyes were shot out by a water cannon vehicle, 12 years old were pepper-sprayed), people got beaten up on police stations, one prisoner even burnt in his cell on a police station etc. etc.

I don't say it's as bad as it might be in the US and at least it's very unlikely you'll be shot in Europe but we also have an abuse of police-power here and we also have the same thing that policemen cover each other instead of telling the truth. On top of that mostly the victims will be prosecuted for resistance to state authority and the abusers in most cases only will have to pay a small fee.

Oh and the problem is not that the police has some black sheeps - I think this is inevitable, the problem is that such black sheeps get covered by their colleagues because of "esprit de corps"...
