Hi guys,
I decided, I'd like to buy whole new PC.... But I need a little help.
What i want to do with new config:
- networking (browsing/uploading/downloading)
- Playing BF3 (I know, I told before: I hate that, but....)
- Capturing/editing/converting HD videos
I tried to build my 'new PC', but I need some informations before about ATi Crossfire.
I read on many sites, Crossfire can handle 2 different cards with "scissor mode".
My plan, then I'll wait opinions, experiences:
*************************************************
MAIN: ASROCK Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
SUPPLY: DEER 500W v2.2 14cm FAN
CPU: INTEL Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz 1155 BOX
RAM: 2x KINGMAX 8192MB DDR3 1333MHz KIT
VGA: 2x SAPPHIRE 11192-14-20G HD6670 1GB GDDR5 PCIE
It costs ~640 EUR here
*************************************************
And what do you think... HD5670 (my current) and HD6670 can work together?
BTW... Is it a working (compatible) config???
thanks
EDIT: or maybe a single HD6870 should be better choice?

If I was you I'd go for a 2GB graphics card (6950?). Currenly playing the beta with crappy textures and using 1Gb of vram on my GTX 570. You might have to upgrade your pwer supply. |

Power supply is always good to have too much of when building/upgrading.
A very good singel graphics card is better than 2 SLI/crossfire unless you want ultra high settings in BF3 and other video excellence. You almost never get 100% worth of speed/quality for you money. So if you can afford it, pic a brand and take the hottest they have, tape it together (SLI/cross) and have fun.
Harddrive; Consider using SSD for systemfiles and another for all the rest and a 3.rd for backup if you can afford that.
Good luck and check alot of sources before deciding how to proceed.
IRL; Awesome graphics, shitty gameplay |

you get almost 100% scaling in sli now....not sure on crossfire.....buy a good solid single 12v rail psu with plenty of amps on the 12v rail......dont skimp on the psu |

@One2One69,
Thanks for info, but i dont understand, and dont know what does 'scaling' means
But I'll buy 1 card only. As I saw the details, 1x HD6870 faster than 2x HD6670. So I'll choose that, but!
What do you think about: Is possible to make WORKING crossfire with my current 5670 and new 6870 (in scissor mode)?
Is possible to use CPU-integrated vga to boost 6870? or that is onlya a wasted resource..?

Scalability (in a nutshell)
if one system finishes a task T in time X and scalability is linear, then
two systems working parallely on a task T will finish the task in time X/2 (read: perform 2x better).
I would not stick to 2 graphic adapters as well - I'd rather buy one good (maybe with 2 GPU dice on it) than using 2 individual cards via SLI/Crossfire (although it scales very well as one already pointed out).
Plus: with that config I'd say your PSU is underpowered - I'd recommend a 600W with 80%+ efficiency.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. |
