Had some very strange problems I think is due to overheated card.

Strange blobs when playing anything that needs acceleration like BF2 and CIV5.

Put my hand on the card and it was really hot.

Using a big desktop box with 1 fan in the powersupply. 1 fan in the rear. 1 fan on top. 1 fan on the CPU. 1 fan on the card. Semi-open at the front. All fans are spinning. Box is standing free with space around and room temp about 20-25C.

System; Win7/64 Nvidia GTX570 with4x2 GB RAM. 1 HDD. 1 DVD. 1 extra USB-HDD (outside not blocking anything).

Are now trying to run it without the sidecover. (don't have pets or kids).

Anyone know what else to do ???

I'm sure there is a software that can monitor the temperature of you GPU or even graphics memory. I suggest you cleaning the fan and the metal parts. use the vacuum cleaner and a brush.

0.1) You have to stress your GPU (graphics processor) to check temperature. I recommend FURMARK*

I think you read Antiglucke's post on shoutbox. As I know, Furmark can NOT destroy your driver/hardvare. Furmark just stressing. If something go wrong during Furmark test, that will happens without Furmark in (eg) Battlefield 3, too.

0.2.) For fastest result, i recommend the following settings to run (in Furmark):

--- Fullscreen
--- max resolution of your Display (monitor)
--- Anti Aliasing: 8x MSAA
--- Dynamic Background
--- Burn-in
--- X-treme Burn-in
--- Post-FX

1.)
Press big BURN button, and run test minimum 20 minutes, OR until you see on the showed temperature graph: the temperature stabilized and dont move up since last 3-4 minutes. (In certain case, this progress takes 10 minutes)

**** IF YOUR GRAPHICS CARD GPU MOVE OVER 80°C ****
******** STOP THE TEST IMMEDIATELY ********

2.A)
If your GPU temperature under 60°C (333.15°K), don't worry and need no more investigation

2.B) If your GPU temperature between 60-80°C (333-353K), still don't worry, but you should clean your PC

2.C) If your GPU temperature over 80°C ... So you can worry NOW. You need a cleaning, or better cooling

BTW, the nVidia GTX 570 GPU max "safe",
working temperature is 95°C

---------------------------------------------------
So... what results did you got?
---------------------------------------------------

Just for comparing: I have a much lower-performance GPU than yours (HD5670). And Currently I'm overclocked my basic 775 MHz GPU speed to 850 MHz, and still has max 60°C temp. (what is hot if I check with my finger). I tried with 900MHz too, and has max 70°C, but at this 16% overclock sometimes DX11 games did mistake, and my graphics driver did mistakes (unwanted lines, colors, etc)

ps.: DON'T remove any cooler radiator if you do NOT have thermally conductive gel.

------------
EDIT: since last time I checked my temps, I 'installed' a third Ethernet card near my VGA, and I got higher results than before... So If you have any PCI things near your VGA card, you should put that far PCI as possible

Need to establish if it is heat or just a dud artifacting card.....Download GPU-Z,install,click the sonsors tab, tick 'the log to file' box....select where to save the log file.minimize GPU-Z and go do some gaming for at least 30 minutes.Once you're done check the logfile and check the GPU load,GPU temp, and GPU fan speed %........the fan speed should be at least 75% while gaming, the temperature should be around 70-80 for those cards on stock air cooling.......some manufacturers cards of the 570 are prone to overheating apparantly.....what manufacturer card is it ?

Yes... This is better solution, because you checking temperature with 'natural' environment, and not artifical stress...

Well,if you do a bit Googling you will find that GTX 570 is having a issue with high temperatures. It's "normal" temp in load with stock cooling is 83-85 c which is pretty high.I would recommend to think about changing stock GPU cooler to something more efficient, but there is a trick.Doing so it may woid your warranty so...hm...
Also, cleaning all parts of your case with vacuum cleaner won't help much, you need compressed air ( i do it once every 2 months or even more regulary in summer days).

Thx for all the advice guys. smiley

I will try some of what you have recommended and if this fail I just drop the computer in the bathtub and run cool water over it. Perhaps my warrenty covers a new Motherboard like i5, with some SLI/crossover stuff smiley smiley

@Pitboss

Simply dropping into bathtub is not enought. You have to provide appropriate water-circulation smiley
